Custom permissions? Recently we've heard of a number of cases where users have a mysterious 'custom' everyone permission appear in their Sites folder. To do anything with the files inside, you have to authenticate for every change. Well, you're not the only one. There are a number of pages that suggest you set the Everyone to No Access then the other everyone to Read Only and you're done. That's great, it works, but if you have hundreds of files, it's a pain. Here's a quicker way: open Terminal (you know the Unix-y type-y thing that we hardly ever have to use) from your Utilites folder. Navigate to the folder you want to fix by typing 'cd' + space + the path to the folder. In my case it was 'cd Sites'. Then copy and paste or type this command at the prompt: sudo find . -type d -exec chmod -a# 0 \{\} \; Type your admin password when asked. This will find all of the folders in your Sites and make the permission change. Do it again with the -type d changed to a -type f to get the files. There will be a number of errors coming up, but these are ok, they're just saying that there is a file that doesn't need this command. Sounds easy, but if you'd rather not risk this fix, bring your machine by Soho and we'll be happy to make sure this fix is done! mon, 7, apr, 2008, 6:39:00 pst ../index.php?page=news 50 Reasons to Switch from Windows to Mac This is for those of you who are still on the fence, dipping your toes in the water and swirling them around if you will. We also have a long-term goal to fund the building of an orphanage within the next 5 years. Regular recipients: Mustard Seed, Santa's Anonymous, MS Society.
